But when we mention water softeners to homeowners, they often become concerned. They know hard water is “not a good thing,” and their mind first goes to possible health problems. Some Consequences of Hard Water You May Not Have Realized

water-and-tapIn a previous post, we looked at the trouble with hard water in a plumbing system. Hard water is unfortunately a common occurrence in the U.S., and it’s difficult to prevent through municipal water treatment plants because the minerals in hard water (magnesium, calcium, gypsum) tend to enter the water after it leaves the plant. The minerals seeps through ground water into the municipal pipes and continues on to homes and businesses.

The biggest threat from hard water is to the fresh water pipes and appliances in a home, the water heater in particular. But there are some other consequences of hard water we haven’t discussed.
